National experience exchange workshop in Croatia
On 7 September 2017, as a part of the project PFA-CE, national experience exchange workshop was held in Zagreb, Croatia by the Croatian Red Cross. In order to provide as much information as possible and different examples of best practice, workshop gathered experts from different organizations: Croatian Red Cross, UNICEF Croatia, the Society for Psychological Assistance, Jesuit Refugee Service and National Protection and Rescue Directorate. Most of the participants were part of the flood response in 2014, and all of them were active during the Balkan route migration crisis 2015/2016. One of the major conclusions was that providing PFA should be trained beforehand, but also practiced in small scale crisis events. Also, support to staff and volunteers should be organized before, during and after emergencies, but accordingly to previous level of knowledge, assigned tasks and experience.
Added value to the workshop was an official presentation of the handbook Psychosocial support in complex emergencies that was issued by Croatian Red Cross and will serve, next to materials developed during PFA-CE project, as a foundation for future development of PSS programmes of the Croatian Red Cross.
